Modeler for curvy shapes
-
I did a too long comparison of various modelers looking for something to make some boat hulls. I choose MOI. The attachment shows the MOI screen. The yellow lines define the hull in MOI before the skin is put on the hull in MOI. In SU the imported polys are smooth and light. See also a rendering. I wanted to see if I could import the hull into SU and then do the non-hull parts in SU.
Using MOI is like swimming in a sea of intuitive snapping. Seems on a par with SU for ease of use. Http://moi3d.com
Considering the number of postings about curvy objects it seems there is a need for an application that handles these well as a complement to SU???

Phil,
Firstly welcome.
I have been using MOI for a short time now and agree it is great for 'curvy shapes' and yes it is pretty easy.
The issue I have with both MOI and SU is 'organic' modeling, MOI works with symmetrical shapes very well but not free forms. The other issue is the size of the exported mesh even with the polygon reduction settings it still ends up a little too large for SU to use it comfortably. -
Wow, despite of the polycount it could still be a very handy program! Thanks Phil (and of course, welcome to the forums though I see you haven't just recently registered)
I think you should also post this in the Hardware & Software section.
