      Dear All,

Following on from a tip to put tutorials in the SelfPacedTutorials folder, wouldn't it be nice if one could open a tutorial in a new window? One could then review the tutorial, close the new window and then resume work. As it is one has to have a second SU file open if one wants to review tutorials while working.

I use AutoCAD's Inventor as well as SU, and that software allows one to open a number of windows and then to either cascade or tile the windows (typically 2 or 4). Each window can then be used to look at a different view of the work, while clicking inside a window makes it the active window for editing, with changes appearing in all windows. Zoom levels can be different for each window making detailed work easy. Would this facility be useful?

      Kind regards,
      Bob

Where you mention placing Tutorials in the Self Paced Tutorial folder, are you then supposed to be able to see these directly from the Help/Self Paced Tutorials/?

I did just try it but I cannot see them directly from the menu.

          Dylan, it's Brad's "Tip" here.

          Bob,

Actually you can create a shortcut to your self paced tutorials folder and put it onto your desktop(or even place it as a toolbar or what on your tray) and open your files from there. The'll open in a new instance of SU.

As for the multiple windows; scenes are meant to (or can be) used for this. True you cannot see them at the same time though...

              Yes, lots of times πŸ˜„

It is also the same on my work computer.

I am placing the files in C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Tools\HelpContent_en\SelfPacedTutorials
              NOOO, Dylan!

You haven't read my post over here carefully enough!

              This is the right path:

              C;\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Resources\en-US\selfpacedtutorials

              πŸŽ‰

I see there are 2 paths mentioned. One is in the "Tools" folder and the other is in the "Resources" folder. I have copied the tutorial .skp file to each location separately and both locations together and have no success.

Edit: My "Tools" and the "Resources" folders EACH have a Self Help Tutorial subfolder. Interesting, huh?

                  Thanks Csaba.

All working perfectly now and im happy β˜€

Well, I'm glad one of us got this working. I did discover that the .skp file was set to open in SU5 so I changed it to 6, but it does not show in my HELP menu. I'll keep fiddling around. Maybe I need a beer.

                      Hi folks.

With SU not running, I copied a SU file in the directory pointed by Dylan, which is:

                      C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Resources\en-US\selfpacedtutorials

Then, I started SU and by going to "Menu Help --> Self Paced Tutorials", the file showed with the Introduction, above the separator line. The choice below that separator is still "Get more tutorials" which brings you to the web site.

Notice that the added SU files dont show up in the Help menu but instead in the submenu "Self paced tutorials" which makes sense to me.

                      Just ideas.

Jean (Johnny) Lemire from Repentigny, Quebec, Canada.

                        Hi Jean,

I know the file is supposed to be under Help>Self Paced Tutorials. All I have there are the 3 intro videos above the separator line. I'll try an "erase and replace" and see what happens. Thanks.
