Does Podium support SMP?
-
I was wondering if Podium supports SMP? In other words, if you have a quad core machine, can you set it to render using all 4 cores thus achieving a result sooner?
I had a look at the Podium FAQ but didn't anything on this. I found a reference to it in the Podium forum, but that is from 2006.
I noticed that TBD (the Podium developer) seems to have built himself a new machine with a Q6600 CPU. Would this mean that Podium has since 2006 become SMP friendly?

Currently Podium does not support multi-core rendering, I believe that version 2 which will be available shortly will indeed support multi cores as well as many new features and faster render speeds.

yup, from 2.0 will support multi-core renderings. it is a joy to see all cores go 100%
quick render 680x382:
4 core render: 20sec
1 core render: 1min 07 secso 3.35x times faster (some time is spent in synchronizing the renders on each core and Windows overhead)

Not bad, not bad at all.

That right there is like my lady love's whisper in my ear...
TBD, any indications as to what upgrade pricing will be like to Podium 2 if one had to purchase Podium 1.5 now?

Glad you posted this Tavi.

We have not finalised prices yet as such but if you buy 1.5 now than you will be paying upgrade price only. Think of it as 2 lot of soft for the price of one.

Sounds like my sort of pricing scheme
Multi-core support will also be very cool, i can just imagine those renders flying along...

Well, payment made. Waiting for the download / licence details.

Cool, Juju. Welcome aboard.
