If its no more than say... 10-15 bucks I can see myself willingly buying it just to play around with. Anything over that and it would almost be a waste for me to get. I agree that it is a lot of work, and you no doubt deserve to be paid for it, but perhaps you could make a slimmed down version that only does two iterations of subdivision and you dont get creased edges for free?

Well, then consider this a good time to consider getting a job. It's important in life to learn anything worth having is worth working for.

However, I can now say that the plugin will be commercially released through Smustard. I am sorry to disappoint those of you expecting the plugin to be free. I have been working extremely hard on this plugin for a long time now and I am excited to see the impact that it will have on SketchUp and the SketchUp community.

Cool. Nice to see people make a buck with something they're both good at and like to do. We're a bit of a spoilt lot, aren't we, with that wealth of free Rubies out there? πŸ˜„

(Dale, does this one bevel edges? And if not, would you please consider developing one that does, someday? Lots of SU users, including myself, would pay good money for a decent bevelling tool.)

I'll happily pay for this! personally i think it gives excellent value for money, especially when you consider the amount of work involved.

There are currently 37 pay scripts on Smustard, total value $328, average value $8.86, most expensive $20, most inexpensive $3. If I think of what this script is reported to do I'd reckon it would be in the $15-$20 range.

I think a bit different on this topic. I would hope the SubD plugin is priced high enough to make the developer a bit of money-- enough so he continues to create quality plugins. While this plugin won't turn SU into a SubD modeler like Modo or Silo3D, it does allow SU users to easily create shapes which until now were difficult if not impossible to make.

I encourage plugin developers to create professional packaged solutions, with tutorials and charge a fair price for them. Once they start making decent money on them, there certainly will be even more powerful and professional plugins, adding never before seen capabilities to SU.

I would think a $25-40 range would be more inline with the various capabilities of this particular plugin. Just my 2 cents.

Ultimately, Whaat should charge whatever he wants. Do I feel, however, this plugin is worth "$25-40"? Yeah, I do.

There is a free version by Rick Wilson on Smustard. It's not the same thing as Whaat is producing, but it has some similar functionality.

There is a script called MySmustard through which you can re-download any script you bought. Also, if you save the e-mails they send you with the URL to the download for the script you should also be able to re-download scripts you've paid for.

I wont lie, when I said 10-15 bucks I was really just hoping thats what it would be. I wont deny this is worth 25-40 dollars worth of work. Well, he deserves several hundred or more for his time really, but per person and all... Although I think it would be more reasonable for people like me who do not use SU for profit if it were in the upper range of Smustard's prices, but not higher.

Personally I think 20 dollars is more than acceptable. But how does that site work? If you pay for a plugin do you get some sort of account or login so you can re-download it at any time? I would hate to not know how it works, get my 20 dollar download then accidentally reinstall XP without backing it up. Although I imagine this has been thought of already correct?

@Kwisten. Do you have a checking account? If so you can probably get a debit card (if you don't have one already). These days debit cards are used everywhere more widely as credit cards for small purchases. At least thats how it is in the US, im not sure where you reside.

I tried the free version (catmullclark subd) but had difficulties with it 😞
When applying it to a sphere for example, I end up with christmas decoration πŸ˜„

                                    About Whaats paying script,
He deserves to get paid for it as he works hard on it.
Somehow I would love this kind of functionality in the official SU built though (SU7).
Since I don't use credit cards, I rule myself out from buying commercial scripts. (unless bank wiring is a paying method).

Sorry, it does not directly bevel edges although it is possible make a rounded cube quite easily with the plugin.

Before I got into this plugin I started work on a bevel script. It is only in the proof of concept stage. I am hesitant to devote a lot of time to it because I'm worried that SU7 will include a bevel feature and then all my work would be for nothing.
