Help please on 'select' issues
-
Hi All,
Ive downloaded sketch up recently and have found that as the building drawn got more complex the select tool will only select random planes or objects in the background if not select anything at all. Also the paint bucket tool selects equally random planes or objects in the background, the push pull tool is once again as uncooperative.
Ive tried making groups of different components on the drawing and selecting within the group and yet again all problems re occur within the group.
Ive tried re installing the program to see if that would make a difference and yet all the same problems occur. Friends of mine that have downloaded this program from the google site also do not have these problems. It seems like it is affected only on my computer which is a new virus free computer.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me mad.
Best Regards,

Hi John,
This is partly a workaround partly a diagnosis test: got to Window (menu) > Preferences > OpenGL and there disable (uncheck) hardware acceleration. Now see if the problem still persists. If not, you may just leave it like that if you do not experience significant slowdown of SU on your machine.
If it solves the problem, it also indicates that (most probably) your video driver needs an update. Go to the manufacturer's site and download/install the latest driver.
Also you come with a software/computer problem but do not provide any specs of your machine. This would be good for any detailed advice is up to the info given.
Cheers and - BTW - welcome to the forums!

.......and just as it was all going right, now grouped objects will not move as commanded. Also the line command does not draw as commanded.
When you described the driver needed was that from the computer manufacturer or was it from the sketch up manufacturer. What would be the driver name to download.
Im working from a new HP Desktop compaq dc 7800 228 GB Hard Drive.
Thanks again.

No, the video card manufaturer (like nVidia, ATI etc.). Here I suppose you mainly have problems with the video driver. What OS do you use? Many video drivers are not up-to-date on Vista for instance (or at least were not when Vista came in).

HEY AGAIN,
The os Im guessing is the platform, Im working on windows xp. The NVidia web site looked at the software and said that the PC has the latest driver for our GPU.
Hope this makes sense to you, Im no Computer Whizz!
Thanks

Ireland,
I know this sounds sily but what mouse do you use?
And in the Nvidia 3d settings make sure you have AA set to 'Application controlled'.

Thank you, it was a mix of the 'use fast feedback' in preferences and the mouse settings.
Much appreciated. Great to get fast response.
