Lighting Plugin for Sketchup

TBD....that would be great right? Combined with the power of upcoming Podium 2.0...

I am open for creating a bridge between Podium and Adam's plugin, maybe an open format that allows exchanging of info
Right now my head is buried in finishing this thing. When the dust settles, I get some sleep, then sometime we should have a chat. But as I've said before, these are totally different architectures attempting to solve essentially different problems. My concern is trying to whack a square peg into a round hole in the expectation something wonderful will come out of it, is a road to disappointment for developers and users.
Right now my focus is fast, interactive walkthrough of models with lighting to give a flavor of the space.
The lighting I use is non-physically based, it is biased, it is an approximation. But its really effective of giving a sense of a place and its very very fast.
So. Sure we should talk. But lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Perhaps these is a useful crossover but I'm having trouble understanding what it is. Thats all.
And when is 2.0 out?
All the best,
Adam -
one way:
- user adds lights in AL (Adam's Lighting plugin) and see in realtime a preview of the model
- Podium detects the lights from AL and renders using those lights
another way:
- Podium renders and creates a textured lightmap
- AL loads the file and allows further modifications

Hey AdamB,
Google posted an ad looking to hire someone right now to develop sketchup and layout.
Ad is here: http://seeker.dice.com/jobsearch/servlet/JobSearch?op=101&dockey=xml/7/4/742c0bc0e4e8fa719ece6825dbef9444@endecaindex&c=1&source=2021&spon=shpaid
Not sure if you're interested, but thought you'd like to take a look since you're pretty much doing it now, anyway. -
Hello Adam!
I'm looking at some ipr-technics of bunkspeed's hypershot, it will be nice to see such in skipy
i remember that you wrote about Renderman...have you or anybody look at Rubyman(sourceforge)?

Here's a link of the latest video.

That looks wicked! the background picture thing is also awesome! just a big bucket of cool really.
-
We are watching ¡¡¡
Congrats.
-
..."that's about it for this episode" struck me as akin to an irreverant "that's about it for this day of creation"... :`)
REALLY COOL, ADAM...CAN'T WAIT!
-
Adam,
This is truly freakin' amazing. Real time lighting and rendering with sky box features to boot. No other program does this that I know of. Please keep it affordable for us poor folks.
Sign me up.
Mark -
just a quick question adam, will you be able to see the sky box background in a podium render?

I do plan on wrapping up development in March so its not going to be too long after that I can have it for sale.
AdamGuys,
This month is March so we could be looking at a launch in a few weeks time! I'd be inclined to not ask any more questions and just let him burn the night oil

That video is great, very exciting.
-
That video is a very nice 'proof of concept'.
Great coding Adam !
The background 360° is definitely cool as well.
Is it a 'equirectangular'(lat/long) image or a 'sky probe' image? The ambient occlusion render method seems really fast and on a textured model the effect is not bad at all.
(still hoping though to have other render engines behind it in a later phase )Keep up the great stuff!

Quick update.
Website is almost up and running - still working on some backend stuff, but have a look: http://www.light-up.co.uk
The plug-in still has some final things I need to do before I release a free, time-limited demo - you'll be able to download it from the website. Of course it will be Mac OSX (PPC and Intel) and PC Win32. The demo is just like the real product but stamps demo labels on stuff, is time limited and I'm expecting a 2-3x performance increase from optimizations for the final release. So, bear with us, its almost here. Matter of weeks now - and yes, I know thats later than I stated!
