i try to work with layers all the time. But as skecthup has no specific colors that indicate which layer i m working on, i many times end up mixing layers. Eg. i use furniture layers while making wall or vice versa. so i wish that if i am working on layer "wall" and if i use pen or any other command onsomething on layer "pillar", some alert may be useful.or any other good ideas

    thanks

      Hi shreesti,

If you click on the little options icon in the layers dialogue, you can set SU to display geometry by layer (i.e. with tdifferent colours). This would let you exactly know where you are drawing your geometry.

        hi Gaeius,
thanks for the suggestion... i m gonna try this for my nect model.. i also hate the fact that in sketchup a line gets common even if they are made in two layers...unless one of them is grouped...so whenever i hide one adjacent layer then the common line between them vanishes as well.. have any idea how to overcome this??
        thanks

Only grouping (making components). Layers in SU do not separate geometry, only control visibility of them so when two different pices of geometry (lines or ednpoints) meet, they merge into each other.

You need to use groups in order to keep them separate.

ya i agree with you ... but there's a problem even if u group objects...there will be a line ( darker one) between two grouped objects... isn't it??

Only if you have profiles on. I never have them on unless I have some difficulties with separating faces and need to see which line is the "culprit".
