Gaia Hypothesis!

Hi Guys,
I watched 'Mark Lawson Talks to James Lovelock' on BBC FOUR
last night and was intrigued by the interview.James Lovelock is an 86 year-old scientist with radical views
on how planet Earth functions and the stark challenge of human
-induced climate change.I definately will be reading more from Dr Lovelock. Here is
his Wiki link, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_LovelockMike
PS: Pronounced: GAY-a (English), GIE-a (English)

Interesting person Mike - he's pro Thatcher, pro Monarchy, pro Nuclear Power and pro GM food yet is idolised by the environmental left. Go figure.
I do like his idea of a living planet, I'd even take it further to a living universe where everything has a life of some kind and moves to sustain it.
-
I've read his book "Gaia" several times (it's sitting on my bookshelf). I loved it, so to say.
("Gaia" or in Latin spelling "Gaea" (later just Gea) simply means "Earth" and was also the name of godess "Mother Earth" - the equivalent of "Terra Mater" in Rome. this is where all the words geology, geography, georeference etc. come from - without meanin to be a smart ass...
). -
...and Fr. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin is the man - an absolute find out must!

-
Ah, he was the one (more exactly "Neothomism" in general) who I took my philosophy exam in (back in 1987 or 1988
).
To tell the truth he was the only one of the "modern" philosophers whose works I knew for read a bunch of them - one of my uncels was a Jesuite frater as well and had all the works. -
hat off to you Gaieus, and that explains why you are here! ..then i guess he was some kind of @Last of the catholic church... his works are intense but what goodness lies under the complexity of his writings..just like the arising of spring..

-
Too sad he wasn't understood within the Catholic Church first. almost like a new Galilei or Giordano Bruno...
-
yes...that was the test...
actually, might take one of his books with me..off to sicily today..

-
Members of the S.J. have often been persecuted in history... They have been banned like three time just in Hungary (last time by the communists in 1948).
-
it is a funny thing that TDC has obviously been appropriated on many fronts since - the fact that he remained true to his vows and vocation is still a thorn to many ...some foresight..
-
Oh yes, as well as though Galilei has been rehabiltated (though only in the 60s or 70s as I remember) it is not really advertised.
But well, that's life (and let's not turn this topic into a religios-political discussion for we end up in the politics forum - or at lest Mike may split the topic into two...
) -
it's ok i'm sure Mike trusts us enough!
-
I hope so (though I could move it, too - but he's "at home" here...)
-
Nay, I won't move things. Ramblings allowed

-
Mike,
what is that in your photo next to your ear? it's driving me batty not knowing what it is...
