Hitting a wall
-
Eric, I've often seen advice to cycle your slimming diet on a weekly or two-weekly rota. That is, you take your target amount of permitted calories per day and you vary it so that you undereat for a day or two then make up for it at another point on the cycle. Some regimes even advise that you have a carbohydrate blowout from time to time...a hefty curry or something.
The idea is to keep your metabolism on its toes. Otherwise...if you are eating a steady amount each day...it will adjust to the lower intake and you hit the plateau you have encountered.I don't know how much exercise you are taking, but you could try increasing it and see if you can blast your way through. One thing to consider, however, is that if you are taking much more exercise than before you may well be replacing fat with muscle (which is even heavier) which might also give the impression that you've hit a plateau....at least for a while.

Thanks Bruce, thanks Alan.
The only exercise I am currently doing is walking. I have stepped it up a little lately, walking more stairs in the parking deck and at the park but mainly just walking.
When I get about another 15 pounds off I will probably start back playing Racquetball, golf and Disc Golf. Although the G & DG do not give me much of a workout, I just love playing. Someday I plan to get back into Martial Arts too, just not as aggressive as before, when I was... sniff... younger

Hi Eric
A book 'I can make you thin' by Paul McKenna worked for me.
For me it was 'all in the mind'
From a slim, trim fit (now hang on a minute I'm getting carried away)
cheers.

I gotta say, I am starting to get discouraged.
I have only lost one more pound in the last 12 days. That after losing 5 a week!
I am still eating pretty much the same things I was when I was losing. I am only drinking water, some juice and Rooibos tea.
Mornings are either a high fiber/protein cereal with soy or almond milk. Kahsi Go Lean or Millet Flakes. Or the whole grain hot cereal with a little honey.
Then a banana or small apple.
Lunch and dinner are mostly salads with chicken or fish. Sometimes sliced turkey or chicken on a Wasa or Finn crisp (I found some Ross).
I am also walking every day. 30 min to an hour. -
Dont give up mate, you will feel emensely satisfied when you've nailed it.
Get yourself a little book called "The Pocket fat, carbohydrate & fibre counter" by Carol Bateman. You need to understand how many cals your'e consuming every day and target your meals accordingly. Fried foods, piza, mayo, muesli can be killers if your'e trying to diet.
Spend money on the best fruit you cn find and eat a lot of 'in-betweeners' so that you aren't feeling hungry.Less than 2400cals a day (what you need to sustain yourself) and you're in bussiness. Try for 1400-1600 a day.
An hour of brisk walking will burn away about 200 cals of energy.
Every deficit of 3600cals a week translates into one pound of weight lost. -
Thanks for the encouragement.
I have lost some more weight but it is much slower now. Being on vacation is not that difficult as am at my mother's house and she stocked whatever I wanted. However when we took my daughter to Sea World yesterday, well we had to eat right? That chili dog did not do me too well but at least I stayed with the water all day.
