Aha! so that's what that new building is. Now I'm really jealous; you're virtually sitting on top of the La Tasca tapas bar. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, more grade II listed building than any UK city outside of London; more Georgian buildings than Bath. I just hope the collateral damage to either isn't too great during this massive redevelopment....exciting and welcome though it is.

These are last fall on a walk around downtown Huntsville. I really enjoy taking walks during short breaks. That is unless it is scorching hot which it will be very soon from now.

Hello Eric. I was in Hunstville about four weeks ago and I thought it was pretty darn hot then! How do you folks work outdoors in the summer?
Of course, I'm in Maine, so everything tends to be warmer/hotter than here!

Stephen, glad you enjoyed yourself here, even if it was hot for you.
Yes it was pretty hot when you were here. The past couple days have been excellent. High of 80 and not a clout to be had. Cool breeze in the shade...

It is getting hot again however.

Did you get to see Big Spring Park downtown? I work a block from here:

I try to walk there whenever I can, yes even when it is hot.

I just feel sorry for the guys who just replaced my roof ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Now that is hot.

                  Hi Alan,

Yes, you are right, we are right next to the La Tasca Tapas bar.
Every now and then we get a whiff of whats cooking.
I walk past it going home of an evening and the smell makes me feel as though I am on my holidays.

I'm not quite sure about the re-development taking place in the city.
I have been to see the first phase which was opened to the public a few weeks ago.
Its all very impressive shiny steel and glass.
But... I feel as though it could be part of any modern city in the world.
It didn't feel as though it had anything unique to our city.
It had no real atmosphere or soul. A bit like the shopping malls in America, just more temples to consumerism. (Sorry, Americans!)
Also, it feels as though the centre of the city is being transplanted closer to the docks.
Maybe not a bad thing in the long run providing the "old" centre doesn't end up abandoned.

                  Regards
                  Mr S

Eric, I did 'pass' by the park, didn't see too much of it unfortunitely. I did see the Space Museum though. And Little Paul's (is that the name of the restaurant?)
I can understand your appreciation of walks. I'm a 'walker' too (I used all my running miles up). Every day- -4d to 95d, I really enjoy the extremes.

                    Stephen

                      Dear All,

The building where I work is shown here:

                      favicon

As you can see, it is not very inspiring. However, the building next door (literally) is a triumph of architecture, so take a look:

                      favicon

The atrium is very beautiful, and the columns supporting the gothic arches around the sides are all made from different stone. For a virtual tour of Oxford, then:

                      Kind regards,
                      Bob
