when i draw with a pencil tool ,it automatically snaps to lines of imported autocad layers.Hence, I am not able to draw accurately .

You can turn the visibility of layers off thus preventing inference.

I didn't want to turn off the layers, i want them as reference to draw on top of them.

Sure but you most probably do not need all layers to be turned on at the same time. Just leave those on which you need for the reference at that stage of your work.

the link was useful, but it still had image as background , while i actually wanted to start with autocad dwg as a base file.

What about turning all the layers on and then selecting all the lines and moving them in the negative "Z axis" direction a ways so that your lines will directly above your reference lines?

Sadly, there is no way to turn off inferencing in SU...you may need to export a jpeg of your autocad layer, insert that back into your model and scale to match, then move it to another layer so you can switch back and forth while drawing.

                      Hi folks.

Keep in mind that layers dont work the same in SU as they do in AutoCAD.

In SU, layers are mostly used to control the visibility of objects.

To isolate geometries in SU, use groups or components.

                      Just ideas.

Jean (Johnny) Lemire from Repentigny, Quebec, Canada.

Further to Jean's advice, make use of SU's "hide rest of model" feature when you are editing a group. Make a keyboard shortcut for it as well, then you can instantly turn it on or off when you are inferencing with background entities.
