Did you know?....that if you have a random group of only 23 people, the chances of 2 of them having the same birthday is slightly better than 50%
Just thought I'd throw in that bit of probability. 😄

      Happy Birthday(s) guys.

Coen, I think melig translates as woolly rather than mealy...have you been at the booze again? 😉

wow... that's strange... but not really becuase you two to spread each month if you get lucky... I would say if you did that experiment, you would find several in fall and several in spring and a few sprinkled between

Ha, happy birthday to allyou guys.

We also celebrate our "name days" here - a custom probably originating in celebrating our saint protectors (everyone has the saint protector after whom she/he was baptized).

It's Csaba day today in Hungary (I guess this name does not exist in any other languages). There is no St Csaba however and the priest did not even want to baptize me with this name.

And it's the birthday of my niece, too.

          Gai...

Csaba, about your name day: Was there a famous Csaba who invented the Csabai sausage or is there a place called Csaba after which it is named?

Please forgive me but everytime I see your name signed to something, my mouth waters and my stomach grumbles.

Susan, the sausage is called csabai because it is made in Békéscsaba (southeast in Hungary).

                                  kris,

i had a very good day yesterday. lots of phone calls, a cake at the office brought by the 3 students who work with me and dinner with my mrs.

my wife is great at planning this kind of thing, anything becomes a continuous party. check this sequence: surprise gifts, cake at the office, dinner at an indian restaurant, lunch for the family today (overrated, I agree, but still around) and lunch for a couple of friends tomorrow. is not that something?

about the overpopulation remark, we still do not feel overcrwded as brasil is a huge country with many unpopulated areas. but if the rate of reproduction is not lowered we will soon be up there with the chinese.

my country is the proverbial "country of the future". the only problem is that the future never comes and it keeps being a potential country that never becomes a reality.

                                  regards.

wow edson, what a day... sounds like you have a lot of people who care very much for you...

yes I have been to Brazil... never knew it was the 5th largest country... I visited Rio when I was about 13... went to the coffee plantations and of course the beach...

they had a strange custom when I was there... this is quite a while back but I think you're old enough... lol...

when a woman went into a nice resturant, a waiter would bring a chair for her purse... and sit it next to her... this happened a few times... is this something normal? or is it because of crime? or what?

                                    John... that's Springfield, Misery...
and our population is about 250,000 when school is out... when it's back maybe 350k

                                      kris,

that strange custom is actually quite widespread. and, thankfully, it has nothing to do with crime. it is just a way to take purses out of people's laps or from the table. briefcases and notebooks usually go to the same chair. but of course it works better indoors than outdoors, where it would be easy to grab something and run (but this could happen in rome too).
