Ignore Backfaces?

Hi,

Is there an option to select faces ignoring anything behind.
Similar to the option of "ignore backfaces" in 3D Studio MAX.
It would save an all lot of time deselecting whats not required.
A ruby script maybe?
Any help appreciated.
