Storin Components
-
I have looked at videos, tutorials and these forums but can't seem to find the answer.
I am just getting into Sketchup, and have done a basic drawing of a step ladder, I made one side of it and made it into a component, it went into the "In Model" folder.
How do I put it into another folder so that it is readily available if I want to put into another design?Do I lose it when I close Sketchup?
Also, If I download components from the kind people at this forum, again, how do I put them in a folder that is readily available?
thanks in advance

Phillip, components are just skp files...just save the pieces that make up your component into a component folder as a skp file (win...program files, sketchup, components, your component folder).
For stuff I get here and elsewhere I just save it to a general folder and import from there as needed...but same as above, if you create that (sub)folder in the sketchup components folder it will show up in the pull down menu.
FYI...a skp file will import into a new model as a component (same name as the file), so if your pieces are already made into a component in the file you've saved, you'll be importing a nested component you'll probably want to explode once.
Hope helps, and best, Tom.

Hi philem,
You can save a component from Edit | Component | Save As . . .
You can create a component library from the Component browser - click on the Details arrow to the right of the library drop-down. In practice you can save your skippies in any convenient folder and add the folder as a library to your models.
