it may have been asked before, in case apologies for not searching it - this is a question for Rick Wilson, or any other blessed with one of those brains 😄

i noticed this wonderful tool copies components at selected distance or at the path nodes (sometimes i have seen my components change size after the copy but i can deal with it by re-editing the component)

anyway that is not my question, rather: suppose my path is a curve.. the components will then be copied flat, (or non rotated from the position of the first instance).

now...how possible it is for each copy to rotate perpendicular the the path it is following?

in the Tutorial section you'll find my tut on Flex-C copied along a path, i ran into this issue, and found that all I could do was ensure that I chose a point to copy that was easily rotated, however for the most part, the group rotated with the line.

Yes, it has been asked 😄 I believe it was in the context of roller coaster design, and the request was for banking curves or something of that nature.

There are many ways to rotate something along a curve. Can you post an illustration of how you would like to see it done?

yes, that seems the best so far - that is why i am 'hoping' that the rotation according to the line (normal?) might be encoded in the script. if only i had a neuron geared up for programming.... for example i wonder if Didier's projection tools might be using some methods that deal with 'alignments of sort'...

it's probably more difficult than i imagine - but hey you never know with these amazers...

nice cross posting Rick! will get an image as soon as i can - meantime, imagine i have a railroad and i need to place the planks along the track, what i would like to do is of course get the planks to behave nicely and turn along the curves of the track.....

or i have a curvy deck chair and after copying the stripes of wood along the profile i turn them laboriously
to fit - that i have already done.... 💚

The script should do the railroad track example already. If it doesn't, make sure you have the latest version (and if you got it from Smustard and not from the SU Ruby forum, then you do), and if you still have problems, let me know.

thanks R, i gave it a go - i did have an old version

however after download and all it didn't work - i attach the file which shows the example i tried it on

                  hope i'm doing something wrong!

EDIT: works when i use by distance - not by node (which is what i want 😒 )

                    Hi Rick

It would be super 😄 if you could fix up
pathcopy circa 2005 with GSU 6
to set obj perp to path.
I think this is what everbody is looking 8O for

                    See attached file.

                    Dave 💚

Okay, I didn't remember that copy to nodes didn't rotate as it went. I'll take a look at that sometime (hopefully soon).

                        thanks Rick - perhaps 4 options: 😲

                        by node fixed
                        by node rotated
                        by spacing fixed
                        by spacing rotated

(don't like much dialog boxes - you can't give them shortcut keys)
