Hi, when you start a new sketch, is there a way to to pick which axis to start sketching on
eg if i want to draw a circle on the blue axis how would i do this ?

The easiest way will be to create a face on the axis you require, draw your circle and then erase the outer face.

yeah..thats what i did..how about changing the axis?
is that the correct way to do it?

As I understand you want to change the axis of the drawing, right? If so, you can create that "drawing board" (the rectangle) on any plane (even off-axis to make drawing easier)
If it was really changing the axes, you can always change them (even move the origin) but note that the global axes will always remain in the same place.
If you go to the Tolls > Axes, you can set new axes but if you (carefully) right click them, you can restgore the original set.
Also groups/components will be created according to the original axes (and this may be a PIA). -
Orbit to look mostly along the blue axis and the default plane will be the red-green (horizontal), along the green: red-blue, along the red: green-blue.

As Tom says, the view of angle (and the area covered by the "largest" third of the co-ordinate system) will allow you to draw on any of the 3 default planes.
You can also use one of the standard views (top, left-right or front-back) to draw on the blue, red or the green axis (just push the button and it gets you there then push the "back" button in the camera menu bar to get back where you were previously).However this is mostly a handy way when there isnt too much geometry around to which the circle tool tends to snap easily.
And also it is a kind of a matter of workflow - whatever you get used to (first). Eventually you can even rotate a circle into a desired alighnment.
