Edges

Is there a way to turn off edges in only part of a model, so I can have certain groups or components not show edges but the rest of the model would?

As well as using the Erase tool with Shift and hide the edges.

Am I missing something? I don't see a "hide edge".
I'd also suggest viewing in wireframe then use shift-erase to get rid of edges. It's quick and you can't erase surfaces by accident.

You have to right click on the edge itself.

Interesting. I don't have that option, just "Hide" which does hide the selected edge.

Well, that's what Ivica probably meant.
Also note that you often just hide something temporarily to be able to work "inside" an object for instance and then the "unhide" command may unhide all those edges you want to keep hidden.
Therefore either group those entities where you want to keep your edges (or any other geometry) hidden OR create a separate layer for all that you want to keep hidden, "move" these entities there and turn its visibility off.

Note that Shift erase hides the edge, however control erase smooths out the edge.
The easiest way to hide edges is to switch to wireframe mode and select the edges and then hide them, that way you won't have to deal with all the faces in your model.
However an easier way is to just switch off show edges, make a render, switch on show edges, make a render, and place those to in 2 different layers in photoshop and just erase the part of the edges image where you dont want any edges. At least this is faster when you are dealing with ALOT of edges and don't want to mess up your model.

Oh, Rob, all those post-process suggestions!
And what if he wants to take dozens of 2d exports? Then hiding the edges is still simpler that PS-ing every each image!

You can also set up the hide command with a shortcut. I use "H".
Select the lines you want hidden and hit H.
You can add/modify your shortcuts in:
Window / Preferences. Select the Shortcuts category then scroll down to Edit/Hide.
