Can kerkythea render transparent images?
-
SU is capable of displaying .gif and .png images with transparent areas, but when you try and view them in Kerkythea the transparent parts show up as white. Is there a way to fix this or would i have to physically model each little bit of metal mesh and texture it?

KT doesnt support transprent gif/PNG as of now.. u can however use clip maps (a blck n white version of ur image map).
the work flow is this...
1)u use ur image map (a normal JPEG image) into ur diffuse slot.
2)using an image manipulation program like Gimp or PS make a Black n white (NOT A GREY VERSION that u would normally use for the bump map) apply into the Clip map option (under the modifiers tab) in ur material editor
3)make sure that u use the same scaling for both the images!
4) render away!or maybe take a look at this : http://www.kerkythea.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2456&highlight=fence
and this : http://www.kerkythea.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3401hope this helps!

Yes, KT can render objects transparently. Unfortuneately I am not a KTguru yet, but I do know that if you rename a material with the addition of a thin glass extension, you will be able to see through it.
In the attached rendering the glass tube area was rendered in KT. Becauase I have not yet learned the program, I hand rendered the restor the product with PhotoShop.
I did tweak the KT area in PhotoShop as well but that was mainly to blend the two styles so they worked as one. KT does a very convincing glass which can be colored and textured.

Hey thats pretty useful. But i meant the invisible portions of gif and png images, like for a fence texture. I found out you have to use clip masks, which doesnt seem too hard.

Ah, I got you. It would look bad to have all your people and trees trapped in a glass sheet.
