A Ma Zing. Mary poppins would be proud mate.
-
@Mike-Amos Thanks Mike. I don’t get the Mary Poppins reference at all. Oh well…….
-
Mary Poppins the film 1964. "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious", something wonderful, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
-
@Mike-Amos I remember when the film came out but honestly can’t recall ever seeing it. I was was in grade school back then
-
Over here in the Almost UK, the tv channels chuck it out at most of the holidays so if anyone has missed it, they were in a weird place. Sorry mate it's something that makes me chuckle a bit.
The title character was extremely positive which is something I think we are all in need of. -
Dug into another old practice model. Minimal number of parts. Additional skills garnered from Box’s gif’s.
-
Very sharp, completely lost me there but, it's thursday so.........
-
@Mike-Amos Assuming the minimal parts sounds confusing? Basically only four components in each basket. The top ring, the twisted vertical bar and a two piece base.
-
@tuna1957 Very well done sir.
I need to go watch more of Box’s video and learn how to do something like this.
-
@ntxdave Thank you sir. I’d suggest starting with simple shapes and practice the various techniques. In particular copy/array around a circle. As you get comfortable slowly add to the complexity.
-
@tuna1957 I have been trying that but so far am not doing very well (making me feel pretty dumb). 🤪
On thing I do have a little problem with in the videos is that he obviously enters info in the text boxes that you cannot see in the video. I will continue watching and figure things out. Maybe this is what happens as we age and are away for a while.
-
@ntxdave Don’t feel dumb. At least you’re trying. That’s more than a lot of people. A shame you don’t live down the street. You could drop over and see in real time how I struggle with this stuff.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, I go out of my way to show everything I can in my gifs, which is why I use a toolbar rather than keyboard shortcuts, and that toolbar has the text box included that shows everything I type. Very occasionally something might be just off screen, but I usually mention what it is if that is the case.
Can you link to one that you are having an issue with. -
@Box I apologize Box. I just went and watched the gif again and somehow I messed the text entries before. I am very embarrassed.

Here is a link to the gif I have been having some problems with..
link text-
Apparently, I am not not drawing the arc between to circle correctly. I wind up with some connections that are not as clean as the should be. After i draw the five sides, I have to use the TIG Weld feature to connect the lines so I can use them for the path for the Follow Me tool.
-
Once I have created the design using the step above, I then cannot delete the inside faces. When I do get it to work, I get the outline in the face and I have to go erase the outline.
-
I do not have a problem with the "bottom" part of the design.
-
Then, I wanted to try something a little different from your design. I wanted to create a whole through the top item that matches the bottom part of the design. Again, I had some problems trying to cut a hole in the top part.
All of this is my first item in your excellent set of topics. After I get some more experience, I want to learn hor to create some of the things others have posted in this thread. In particular, I would like to learn how to create something like the lamps with the items around them (do no know the correct term to use).
Again, I want to thank you for sharing the items in your thread. They are very useful, and I want to expand my capabilities.
BTW: Here is the file from what I did for this exercise: Box Practice 1.skp

Make sure you get the magenta inference. The start and end points of the arc should be in the same relative segments of the circles. Often best to use a segment Midpoint rather than an endpoint. And it needs to be at a point that will flow smoothly with the circle.

Well yes, but all I did was triple click to select all of it as the path. Weld allows you to select it with one click.

I double click on the face, which selects the face and it's edges allowing it all to delete in one go.

Looking at your model it is clear you haven't connected the arc smoothly.
And the circle you have in the middle of the shape is drawn Off Axis, so it will not line up correctly with the rest of the model. -
Thanks for the response/repoy. Hopefully I will be able to try again later today. Again, I really appreciate you giving me instructions in how to get this wright. Eventually I want to be able to draw things like the first picture in you thread. Be I need to hone my skills first.

Do you have a suggestion/advice about how to correctly connect the circles? How do I get a reference to the segment Midpoint?
-
Look for the tooltips that tell you midpoint or end point etc
