Is there a plugin or feature that allows you to choose to do an offset with curved corners instead of sharp corners?untitled.jpg

I have Fredo's plugin for 3d corners but a simple offset with rounded corners for a 2d shape would be very useful.

I don't know of an extension that would do what you ask. If the radius of the arcs on the outside is larger than the offset distance you will get a radius on the offset corners, too. In your example, you could radius the corners of the inside loop of edges and offset outward.

Question for you: Suppose an extension existed to do what you want. What radius would you expect on the corners of the offset edges?

The idea would be that the radius of the corners would be the same as the offset. i.e. a 2mm offset would have a 2mm radius for the curve of the corner. This way the entire offset would all be exactly 2mm from the source geometry.

See the same examples as above but with dimensions

Inkscape does something like this with Dynamic Offset.

By definition that's not a true offset.

Yeah, maybe it might be called something else, technically. Maybe something like expand. I guess the answer to the initial question is no... shame. Would save me quite a bit of time in my workflow.
