Advice needed in order to develop a plugin using Ruby.

I am interested in designing a plugin which gives me the possibilty to enter dimensions in a pop up window to create volumes in Sketchup. I am new in this 'world'. There are any templates available that could take me off to start?

You should get very simple examples and try to understand how they work.
