Object moving

I am wondering what could cause this..... I am working on an animation of a crane picking up a load from a truck and putting it onto a platform... all is good until the load is on the platform ( movement 8-9) and I save...start the next movement( #10 ) and at this point I don't have an object to select because it has moved about 6 meters below my 40 meter building..... first I thought I moved it by accident but no..; because the tower crane head has also moved 6 stories down into the building....which is not grouped or connected in any way to the load object.
so I started from scratch... again and again.... after 26 attempts and 26 times the exact thing happening I am annoyed and I think its time to shelf this add on from my set
