sottsass shelves.jpgCouldn't resist modeling this whimsical and utterly impractical set of shelves. It's the "Carlton" bookcase, by Ettore Sottsass. He's the architect and designer who founded the Memphis design movement in the early 1980s, and this is one of the movement's first pieces. Is Carlton the stick figure standing on the green shelf? Who knows? The Memphis movement lasted barely ten years, and I think I know why.
      Enjoy.

That's cool. Don't know about the Memphis "movement" but I think I like the music better.

I understand that the movement took its name from the Dylan lyric, "stuck inside a mobile with those Memphis blues again." Of course.

Great job on an “unusual” piece of furniture. I use the furniture definition very loosely in this case ! 😉

"utterly impractical" I think fairly describes this piece.
However, it does look like a fun, "Why not?!" project! Good job.
