Folks, this is getting serious and I need some advice! I can only sit for maybe 5-10 minutes then need to get up and hobble around.

I've tried a few different chairs over the years but none of them eliminate the problem.

This chair I'm using now, it fells like I have good lumbar support, so can't put a lumbar support pad in that space.

what suggestions might you have to help with this? Is there a specific type or brand of chair that's helped you?

I use an Aeron chair for a long time now. I always think it doesn't feel like I've been sitting for hours when I get up. But your back issues may be different as you are an active builder as well.

Besides the chair, chiropractic and exercise (something upper-body low-impact, I do paddling) have helped me. And I'm sure (deliberate) walking or running are also helpful.

My wife's solution was a fancy powered table so she can stand or sit, though I don't think she uses the standing mode as much as at first.

Yeah work doesn't strain my back it's the darn sitting that does it in! I haven't gone to my chiropractor in well over a year, but finally have appointments with him again! Yes when I'm not working in the shop or jobsite I do nice walks, good for the mind as well as the old body!

I notice your hummer avatar. Check this out! This hummer flew in to my shop and died well over a year ago and it's still up there, sort of like a protective spirit I like to think. Looks like he was ready to swoop out the door but only his spirit made it out.

the 1st pic look top center, he's hanging from that green wire.

I use a saddle stool mostly. (I do swap out to a standard recliner type sometimes) I have it set fairly tall so I am almost standing. This adjusts your posture so you are naturally sitting in an upright position. Obviously you need to raise your desk up to suit as well, which can make a sit/stand desk far more useful.

Everyone is different. You really have to spend a lot of time trying out different chairs in the stores to find the right one.

It is very disappointing how bad most chairs are, even the expensive ones.

Might be worth a trial for at least some of the time
and maybe speak to a physio

Yeah I'm tired of buying chairs to try out, what I do now is lean way back so the weight's off of my butt, and prop my feet up on my old computer that I put under the desk. It's leaning forward to see the screen better that messes up the old back.
