Outdoor Chair
-
An Adirondack chair I modeled to use for plans I created in LayOut. The plans are for a television show called Rough Cut with Fine Woodworking. The most challenging part was working out how to draw the correctly layout in SU the curves from the copy of the full-size pencil drawings which arrived damaged by the carrier.

Really accomplished Dave, much more complex than meets the eye probably one of the best models I have seen. The proportions are refined and perfect

Beautiful model!

I'm confused, you've posted this as an outdoor chair but I see no indication of wood treatments. Are you saying that if I follow this design the chair will last forever in whatever weather I subject it too! I understand of course that the second I take it inside it will collapse in a heap, giving me a useful pile of firewood.
-
That's exactly it!
Actually the original chair is made of cypress which is a very durable wood for outdoor applications. You could choose to finish it with oil or maybe a marine grade varnish or you could just paint it. American white oak would be a good option, if not heavy, or western red cedar, or if you don't have any compunctions about using it, Burmese teak and put no finish on it at all. Or build it out of that composite material made from plastic milk jugs. If you do that, don't plan on burning it in your indoor fireplace, though.

I'm still not convinced, will this outdoor chair, using your design, which forces me to look skyward, protect my 'somewhat curlie haired unmentionable parts' from the savage scalding that comes with spilling coffee in your lap?
If not I hope you have a warning sky writer employed full time. -
I won't take responsibility for the design or your clumsiness when you spill that hot cup of coffee on tender, unexposed flesh. Perhaps a prerequisite of having a hot cup of coffee should include being literate enough to read the warning on the bottom of the cup.

Dave, Great spin on a classic chair .

Thank you. Check out the Rough Cut episode showing how to build it.
