Component ordering

Hey. I'm semi new to sketchup. Using it for my job. One of the models I am making I need to get a complex layering and component utilization out. An easy explanation is rows and columns. How do I get objects that I'm importing in to say be a part of row 2 and also column 4 so when I go to hide the layers, the specific portion I want is hidden. Right now I can only group the row or column and the object of interest is locked and cannot also be over in the other group. I'm probably missing something. Any assistance is much appreciated.

you would probably need to create additional groupings of the geometry imported and associate those with layers
consider purchasing a pro license, as required for commercial purposes
