The maintenance is optional and the fee is only applicable from the year after the licence purchase.

Its not free indeed but have you looked at the prices of the usual cad software.... (revit/archicad/...) ?

Have you asked if you can upgrade from Sketchup 3 Pro while simply playing the reinstatement fee?

If I was from Trimble I'd consider accepting it... maybe, they really have to anyway, but I suspect they dont.

It's a different beast to the other CAD software though and look at Blender.
I can upgrade and have done a number of times I'm not still on Sketch-up 3 lol
I just looked at the full list price and thought if this is the way it's going where will the retail price be in the future ??

It's pretty simple, either it's worth it or it's not.

When customers like Starbucks find it essential to their design work, Trimble are going in the direction of the money, not away. Can you blame them? Depends on the market. They keep the free version going nonetheless. In comparison to Blender: For $695 so many users are just not going to invest the time for Blender.

                  Hmmmmm....and that's $US

It converts to $944Australian dollars...might have to think very carefully about whether or not I upgrade.

I seem to be using ArchiCad more often and SU less often these days, although I must admit I get far better rendered images if I model in SketchUp and then render with Twilight or Thea......but why do anything twice !!??

I have made quite a substantial investment in ArchiCad over the past 5 years and that includes the 'Select Agreement' which means I also receive the new version each year.
