I'm not completely sure if there's a 'Free' .3ds importer, but there are some other 3rd-party importers for file format's like .dxf, .obj etc [and .dae and several other format importers too are available in 'Free']; so if you don't have 3ds as an import option [check the file-types in the import dialog???] you can then find an intermediary-exe that'll read in the file and export it to one of those other formats that you can import into 'Free'... This applies to other file-types too, that might not be listed in the import dialog dropdown list............

          Meshlab for intermediary?

So you´re saying that it´s not possible to import .3ds files directly with the free version? 😕

I have the Free version of SU 8 and the pro version of SU 7, I can import 3DS directly into both.

I have 'Pro' so I can import everything that's possible.
The 'Free' version does have limited importers... but after investigating further I now understand that 3ds is one of the importers that Free has [but the exporters are more limited]. So if you have Free just look at the list of available file formats under 3d import !
[If you had done this you needn't have asked at all 😒 ]
If 3ds isn't there use the convoluted route, but if it is there just go and do it!
Also I suggest that you read the Sketchup Help files - search '3ds import' etc...

I have checked it out already, I was just confused with all that "intermediary" stuff 😄

                    Sorry for the confusion.
The initial inquirer would have been well advised to check what he could do first - it's difficult for Pro users who have no access to the Free version to help sometimes 😒 ...

Has anybody found a way of batch converting Archicad *.gsm files to *.skp files? Apart from opening them in Archicad and manually exporting them one by one?

Alternatively batch converting Archicad *gsm to *.ifc files?
