Sketchup 6 Vray bmp texture size problem
-
Hi
When i apply a bmp texture with vray on a sketchup surface it is tiled a million times and really really small although my u v tile is set on just 1?? I'm working on architectural scene's and its my first week with vray for rendering. Is it because of the size of the objects? Can anybody please help me cause i'm really desperate.. -
If you right click a face with the texture->texture->position you can scale the texture appropriatley.
-
yeah but it has no effect on the vray material itself when rendered.

I have not been successful using the context 'stretch' facility for textures in sketchup, i.e. the UV info doesn't seem to get transfered to Vray.
Therefore I always adjust the scale of the texture using the SU Material editor. As an example, of you have an image of brickwork, which is say 10 bricks high, then I set the height of the texture in the SU Material editor to be 750mm (75mm per brick!).
The only time I use context texture editor is to set up a 'projected' texture or to position it.

Still no succes.. When i trie to use a vray linkedmaterial the texture is not shown when i render or on the "preview sphere". My sketchup textures are also not shown in a vray render.. What am i doing wrong here?

What version of SU and Vray are you using?
The reason I ask is because the latest version of Vray (I think it is 01.05.30 - see 'about' in your options menu), automatically creates a vray version of each SU material, so there is no need to 'link' materials, which you seem to be implying (this was how it was in an earlier version of Vray).
scaling and positioning is now done in the SU Materials editor, then 'bells and whistles' i.e. bump and reflection layers etc is done in the Vray materials editor.

thank you very much for the quick reply david. I'm going to update my version right away. I had indeed still an old version

I updated and it is working perfect! Thank you David! I still have one last question though.. If you have a bump map of your texture and you scale your texture in the sketchup material editor. How can you apply a correct sized bumpmap in vray?

vray takes the UV info from SU. So assuming that the bump map and the texture are the same size (!), then vray adjusts the bump to suit the scaling you have applied to the texture. - neat!
