Sketchup Cutting Report
-
Hey all! I hope you are well.
A quick question.
I came across this video on youtube.
Does anybody knows where i can get this plugin!
Looks simple and good.
Or more info or simply how to create something like this!

I can't tell which plugin that is but it seems like there is an awful lot of button clicks to get to a cut list. Have you tried the CutList plugin available in the Extension Warehouse?

Thanks for replay Dave!
I used it some time ago.
There is nothing that controls grain direction. Is there now?
Take a look at this. Found it yesterday. Looks very good.

Some things I don't like - The way hardware is calculated and texture quality.Anyway, i'm after very simple report.
Thanks again!

No, CutList doesn't report grain direction. I use it for most projects I draw in SketchUp and have never found that to be a problem. Granted in a few very limited cases, the grain doesn't run parallel to the longest dimension but generally it does and having the dimensions is fine.
the CutList plugin seems like it would give you the simple report you need.

I work with veneered sheet materials and grain direction is needed.
Some projects have 300-400 parts.
I use Cutlist Plus for my optimization.
I have this idea in my head.
If I could draw a component in specific way where comp axis are dim. (red- thick, green-width, and blue-length (or however user chooses))
And then by assigning mat- mat type, material name and grain direction would be assigned.
And it would be also visually correct.
Thanks for input! -
Interesting thought about the component axes. It would be tedious to set up the component axes for every component so that it's thickness was aligned with a specific axis color. It would also be tedious to use those components in other models since they would insert aligned with the model axes.
I've heard of others asking about using the grain direction in the material to drive dimensions but I don't think it is possible at this point.

Joe Zeh's Cutlist Bridge can probably do what you want - it's purpose is to create a file for use by Cutlist Plus. It can be overkill for simpler needs because you have to enter a lot of info into the model, but I believe it handles grain orientation and materials among other things.
