Middle Mouse Button & Laptop
-
I have a new laptop and my middle mouse button doesn't work (Logitech M560). The touchpad has a Synaptics driver and the mouse driver is a generic hid compliant one. In control panel there isn't an option to change any settings for the scroll wheel other than scroll speed. I obviously need a different mouse driver but don't know how this will affect the touchpad. Before I install the Logitech mouse driver and wipe out my touchpad, maybe someone knows how this should be set up?

I have that very mouse on a desktop pc now but have used it on a laptop as well. In the case of the laptop the touchpad and mouse can be active at the same time. I usually turn the pad off though.
You should be able to find software for the mouse I think it's called Set Point.
I have customized the buttons for Sketchup and and it works great.
My settings are, thumb buttons, select and tape measure.
Left click, select.
Left scroll, undo.
Right scroll, redo.
Scroll, zoom.
Middle button, orbit
Right button, context etc.
You can of course set the buttons any way you like.Shep

Thanks for the info. My wife stole my laptop to use as a tv this evening so I will explore the solution tomorrow. I have read a number of threads that says the M560 scroll wheel is not assignable as a middle click but you seem to have achieved this or am I misinterpreting something?

Or I misexplained. The scroll wheel (as far as I know) when pressed only shifts between smooth or "ratchet" scrolling. It does have the programmable left and right scroll function. You may be able to alter the function scroll/zoom to something else but I can't imagine doing such a thing.

I have bought one of those M560 the past week myself and returned it because of that missing scroll wheel middle button configuration. I brought back a m705 instead. I used to have a MX Revolution that had lasted me for around 6 years. Perfect mouse. I was thinking on the new MX Performance but I tried it and the scroll wheel middle button worked but it's not easy to press. It's a shame because it has some better features than the MX Revolution.
I'm very happy with the m705 though the discontinued MX Revolution still haunts me a bit...
I feel obliged to say that 3D connexion have a CAD specific mouse that I could have had a look before I buy the m705 if I knew about it's existence.

I'm going to return the mouse. The 3d connexion mouse looks very interesting but for that kind of money, I would want to hear from someone who has actually used it.

Hi Shep.
I am writing in regards to the Logitech m560 mouse.
Did you use the LOGITECH SETPOINT software in order to customize buttons for Sketchup?
Did this affect mouse settings in other software?
I am a bit reluctant to install the logitech software as this may cause all sorts of other issues.
Thanks in advance. -
There is a free program called "X Mouse Button Control".
Any button can be customized to any function and act different in different applications.
Great application.

Did this affect mouse settings in other software?
