PDF to Layout?
-
I have a bunch of structural details from engineer in PDF format that I would just like to insert into layout. Is there any method to achieve this? Can I convert the PDF into images or is there a plugin-extension? First post, kind of weak, I know. Cheers for any help.

Inkscape, which is free, can be used to convert to .dxf. Tutorial here http://sketchucation.com/resources/tutorials/426-pdf-skp-conversion You can't import PDF directly into Layout, you would have to make a screenshot of the PDF and use that

Great. Thanks so much. I did try the screenshot method as a test but was looking for more automation with the volume of details involved. Thanks much.

Open PDF > save as JPG > insert JPG to Layout.

I use the windows snipping tool to cut the piece of the PDF an I go ctrl+c then ctrl-v and that's it!

@uzaga said: I use the windows snipping tool to cut the piece of the PDF an I go ctrl+c then ctrl-v and that's it! Only benefit mate saving as a sheet size gives you a known size to scale up! Or set LO page to same size and drop page for page size!

On a Mac just import the PDF.
I sometimes clip out just the bits I want.Be careful with scale, if that is critical to your work. I haven't found the PDF>DXF or DWG converters to work very well if there is alot of text, hatching, leaders or dimensions.

If you're going to be doing this often... Get Adobe Illustrator and have the ability to edit the PDF prior to saving as dwg/dxf. vector lines are your friend, but beware of small difference between dimensions and vector sizes.

On Mac I can insert PDF OK, I can manual resize OK, but can't check box to Preserve Scale on Resize once I've got it right. Or uncheck Ortho. Is there a workaround that does not involve getting PDF scaled to suit before insert?
