Layout 2015 menu icon size

I noticed the icons in LayOut2015 are quite bigger compared to LayOut2014. I prefer the largest workspace so always disable 'large icons' in the customize options.
The top bar in the image is LO2015, the bottom is LO2014. Both with large icons disabled. Any way to get the smaller icons back?
