Layout print to PDF quality issues
-
I'm using Layout 2014 on win7 and having continual issues printing to PDF.
I have tried exporting to pdf and also printing to pdf (various software, adobe, cute, creator, 995)
My main problem is opacity/transparency and pattern fills. I use coloured fill areas with varying opacity values, pattern fills and often both together.
When using the export function the output is good and clear and when displayed in the pdf viewer you can see the colours are consistent and the patterns are also drawn in full. However, two issues, 1. for some unknown reason, the export function doesn't always complete and crashed halfway, saying the export cannot be completed, 2. when sending the exported pdf file to a print shop, the hard copy output is usually filled with black solid boxes. Both issues mean the export function is too unreliable.
The print to pdf option is far more consistent and has only let me down on rare occasions. However, when using the print to pdf option (on all pdf printer driver variants mentioned above) the coloured fill areas come out as a half-tone and the patterns come out almost as if they were drawn with dotted lines.
I've searched and searched for an answer to this but as yet have come up with no explanation.
Anyone know of a reason why the 'print to pdf' option can't print correct opacity or patterns?

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have a similar issue with Layout 2016 on a Mac - printing directly from Layout or an exported pdf of the same file shows coloured fills as half tones and the bounding boxes of fills reducing the quality of anything within them e.g. lines, text. On screen, the pdf is fine. I have found that if I open the pdf in Adobe Reader and print from that (rather than Apple's Preview) it prints fine, but that’s adding to the workflow.
