When I try to display layers or entity info, sketchup freezes - windows task manager registers as still running but it is non-functional.....

I re-installed sketchup last week to fix this bug but I dont want to have to re-install every week.

I once managed to fix it by going to Preferences and resetting the work space but now opening Preferences results in the same freezing issue.

Anyone else experienced this? Anyone know whats causing it?

    Tech deets:
    sketchup8pro
    windows 7 64 bit
have been running many plugins for a long time without fault....

Just some stuff I do with Sketchup.

Have you used more than one monitor and changed the setup recently?
Often when you change screens around the dialogs get lost on a screen that isn't there anymore and it doesn't freeze as such, it's just wanting you to hit ok or cancel. Sometimes resetting the workspace fixes it, Tig has a Regedit to do it, but I change the position of the monitors till I find the offending box.

Yeah I tried that - the multiple screens could be the problem but I couldn't find the dialog boxes anywhere so I think it is more complicated than you describe. How do I get hold of Tig's Regedit?

Give this a try. Go to pref under SU menu and select Workspace reset workspace has worked for me before.

Edit You tried that didn't see that.

Thanks Box, going through Tig's instructions for editing the preferences window worked

I had the same problem working in a Laptop and another monitor connected to it. I could not even see the window "Preferences", so it was impossible to "Reset Workspace".

I found just one solution: Disconnect the external monitor, then all windows were shown in the laptop screen.
