SU Maintenance expired

My Sketchup provider just sent me an email reminding me that my SU maintenance subscription is about to expire:

Secondly, for those who wish to continue to receive all of the new releases of SketchUp, you now have 30 days after your maintenance expires to renew (and pay for) your maintenance, to avoid the expired maintenance fee of $65 + gst, on top of the renewal fee of $125 + gst.
This fee also applies to any older versions of SketchUp Pro.

I haven't even used SU14 yet being lazy about updating all the pluggins. Are most people updating every year in hope for the BIG UPDATE at some point. Or are people skipping years and paying the expired maintenance fee?

Be interested to hear, as Ive paid for every update since I bought SUv4, but could have really skipped versions now thinking back.
