Shadows and Photo Match result in unrealistic shadows
-
I can't figure out how to achieve a more realistic shadow with Photo Match. The problem is that the shadow on background image is fully opaque and looks weird.
For example, a shadow cast from a default 2D person on a 3D box is semi-transparent and looks like it is in "Multiply" blend mode with the box - so it's ok. But the shadow cast on the background image is not transparent - as in the image below.
Is there a way to make the shadow cast on background image semi-transparent, or at least export just the shadow? (to add it later in image editor in Multiply mode)?

The shadow is not cast on the background image but the ground. It seems to be occluding the background image too much. You could try lightening the shadow under the shadow window. You could experiment with drawing the ground surfaces in 3d and projecting the image onto them.
Yes you can export different scenes with different style settings and combine them in PS or other editor. Often done.

You can model the background and project the textures to it.
