Cutting letters

Hi i am trying to create a Text that is aligned on a curve for wood cutting
whats the best way to align the text on a curve and attach them someway so its just 1 piece of wood with letters rather than many pieces of wood.
Thanks

I think you have more text editing options like text path, (negative) letter spacing in another program (PhotoShop, a design program, or Inkscape). Then export to DXF and import into SketchUp.

If you make a component, say simply of a rectangle then array them with the rotate too, the text you make inside each component will be rotated to the component axis. You have to make each component unique and enter each to make the 3d text. Aerilius' idea might be faster if you have a lot or want specific spacing or text.
Explode text Combine with a single face to make them all part of one piece of material. Remove inner faces for solid, if needed.

I was thinking of an arc. A complex curve will be more difficult. Yes, I would do this in CAD pretty easily.

It could be done in SketchUp although Inkscape or CAD would probably be faster. If you really want to use SketchUp, I can make up a tutorial to show how to do it. It would be closely related to one I did some time ago showing how to place numbers on a clock face. If you have a specific font in mind, it would help to know what it is.

I seem to recall that someone once did a tutorial on placing text on a wine bottle in SketchUp. I wasn't able to find it, but I believe it went something like this:
Set up your curved surface (like a really large-diameter cylinder), but don't make it a component.
Create the text you want to apply to the curved surface using the 3D text tool. Align it with the curved surface so the text is centered on the diameter of the curve, and at the desired height.
Use Push/Pull to push each letter toward the curve until it intersects.
When all the letters have been extruded in this way, select everything and run an Intersect with Model command. Erase the waste (the extruded letters, that is). You should be left with the outline of the letters on the curved surface. Now you can make the curve a component.I gave this a quick try and it seemed to work. See the attached SU file. Hope it helps.
Best,
