I recently got a new machine at work with dual monitors. I'm trying to set it up so that my model is on the main screen with the toolbars and everything else on the secondary screen.

The problem is that the toolbars keep randomly "jumping" over to the middle of the main screen for no apparent reason.

    Am I missing something here?

I'm currently working two models simultaneously, with one model referencing the other using an xref plugin.

I use two and sometimes three monitors and they never move. But if you have closed or saved a file with toolbars in a certain position they will tend to open there next time. So if the file you are referencing was saved that way it might be making your toolbars jump when it is referenced.
Try closing everything, then open a new blank model and set the toolbars where you want them and then close it without saving. This should set that position as the current default for all files.

It's only a guess but you never know.

any settings in toolbar location will have to be saved by closing sketchup before they will take to both instances. I use 3 monitors. aOpen one instance of SU and set the bars the way you want. then close SU and repopen however many you plan on using. now they should stay put.

These suggestions helped to an extent but I am still restricted from laying out the windows as I would like.
I have 3 screens. 2 Identical External screens that are set to behave a one screen. and the native laptop screen.

I can get the windows, (layer , outliner etc)to stay where placed if I close the template without saving. So thanks for that tip.

However I am restricted where I place them. I have the edit window open in the left External display any can put the windows (outliner etc) on the left edge of the right external screen (middle). I would like to move outliner onto the right of the right screen but every time I attempt this the window will drop onto the native screen. They seem to only exist happily on an external screen if they are stuck together.
          Nice screens, no help!!!

Any other experiences that might help please. 😳

Here is the solution I found, sou I thought Id share 😍

SU14 it seems dos'nt like displaying off main display. Which was a hint given by CF. Thanks

I changed my dual screen to be the main display (start menu etc) This could come to bit me when I return to single screen!

I started up SU which appeared on dual display eventually. After selecting SU in start bar nothing happens. Then start bar SU icon becomes highlighted. When hovering over the ICON the instance running icon appears, but no program. When I instruct icon to close the non running program starts.
I then enabled the floating windows. Some where selected but not to be seen until I enabled the outline window which I usually set to be screen depth. It was located in virtual space above my dual screen and overlapping the top edge. So now a had a clue to where this and perhaps the others where how to retrieve them?

In the Screen resolution settings (right click screen)it is possible to move the screens around relative to each other by selecting the screen icons and dragging them. I moved the laptop screen above the dual and there they where.

If you only have 2 screens then this may not be possible as I cant see on my system how I would split the dual extended display and turn it into 2 floating displays.

Hope this helps any others suffering the same random behavior. 😍

              I'm not on 2014.

              "edit window open"

What do you mean edit window?

I have 3 screens and don't have any issues with windows or toolbars on any menu. But you say one of yours is a duplicate?

              Here's my layout.

By "edit window open" I meant the main program window.
After my last post I discovered that it was the (annoying) start-up splash screen that was appearing off screen. Once I moved my 3rd screen around I was able to find the splash screen and move it to where it would be visible.

Good idea to include image but I don't have a web server so I cant reciprocate unless there is another way?

I forgot to mention for those interested that my setup is a Thinkpad W540 with a Zotac Display port (Thunderbolt) to dual HDMI adapter to 2 x AOC. (Asked for docking station!)

This configuration seams to be very stable and was easy to setup BUT it seams to completely bypass the NVIDIA graphics accelerator. So when we get off the ground may have to invest!
                ....unless you know otherwise!

Matrox triplehead2go and dualhead2go are excellent options. They split one output into many and don't hurt graphics in doing so.

You can attach images and files using the attachment option of the reply window. Scroll down a bit to see it.

Our monitor setups are larger than the allowed image upload sizes.

I gave that answer as it seemed Mister T didn't know how to attach an image.
But isn't 1600 wide enough to understand your layout.
