Importing .obs and .mtls

I'm attempting to import some .obj files into Sketchup 8 Pro, but I am not getting any of my textures. The .obj files are in a folder along with their identically named .mtl files, and all the texture images in .jpg form. I am using the stock importer. I have tried to use the obj_importer.rb script, but it hangs every time I try to import an object - even a very simple one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
