Hiding traces of using symmetry
-
Hey guys,
this is a problem I still struggle with. How do I finish a piece in which I used symmetry whiteout a huge line between the two components? If I try to hide the lines or explode the components and erase the line, there are always bugs.Because no matter how precise I try to glue together, one of them is always a little bit off and that creates holes in the model? Thank you !
PS: I apologize if I spam , I'm sure it's an easy fix.But I google searched it and I didn't find anything, I know I probably didn't google it right, but I can't waste any more time on the problem. -
it's better if you can post an SKP example! (save as V6 for a more large audience!
because now there are SU 2013, 8,7,6... -
Well If I have to be honest I didn't find a model which will be suitable as an example.I tried to recreate the problem and upload it.But I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't had this problem now.
Basically when I make a component : -> Flip Along -> Move tool + Shift and sometimes no mater how many times I try, the component is always several millimeters inside the other component or it doesn't touch it, and you can see that issue only if you zoom like crazy. This creates a problem because if I want to hid the line you can see a gap between the two components and if i try to delete those lines a face gets deleted as well. -
A couple of things that might help you with your accuracy.
In Model info/units you can adjust snapping and precision, both of these can help with how well edges fit together.
If you have hidden the join line between two components, it often helps to turn on hidden geometry so that you can select the connecting point accurately.
And on that note, make sure you select the correct point to move your component. If you just grab the thing randomly it will never join properly, use inferencing to make things fit together.

If you keep both faces parallel there should be no problem when you explode the components or when you hide the edges .
Before you explode the components or if you want to keep them like this, you should check if the edges are on the same plane. I use Make Planar tool from Artisan plugin to make them planar on my needed axis (You can also make them planar using move tool using one point for reference). If your edges are a closed loop, when you connect two edges the loop should close in a plane, if it doesn't close then the edges are not on the same plane, therefor you will have gaps .As long as you don't play with the side that will be in the middle there should be no problem, and even if you play with it, make sure you don't move the edges in left or right.
