There's a plugin by TT called "Material Renamer" that automatically renames all the materials. I was looking for a plugin that allows me to manually rename each material. For example, let's say my model is imported into SU as Material 1, and I'd like to rename it Window, and Material 2 to be renamed Door, etc. Ideally I'd like the bitmap to also be renamed after that entered name. I'm having to rebuild the textures/materials onto my model after I bring it into another 3D program. When there's 30 or so materials I can't easily identify which material belongs to which part of the model.

If there was someone who is developing such a plugin, is it possible to also allow a material (and bitmaps) to automatically be named after the group name assigned to that material?

      Thanks!

if you do this often, maybe create a generic set of materials with the names and colors desired (i do this for lumber, metal etc frame materials as well as "sheet" so they can be used in cutlist for example). one caveat is the color of the material cannot be the same as another otherwise they collide - e.g. taking Color007 and renaming it "Charcoal" and saving it as such, then loading the model, you'll see Color007 overriding the renamed one. so you need to tweak the color slightly. hopefully in a future version of SU they'll fix this behavior so the name of the material guides it's inclusion.

In my case there are just so many variations of materials and textures that a generic set wouldn't be feasible. It's a good idea though. Thanks.
