    Hi All

I've just started playing with Sketchup and after a lot of confusion initially I'm starting to get the hang of it a bit and can create basic shapes and extrude them etc etc.

However, I'm currently trying to design a shelf and would like to put a groove in the side of it and am stuggling.

I thought it would be a a fairly simple procedure

    1. draw a rectangle the size of the shelf.

    2. Pull/Push top of rectangle to give the shelf depth.

    3. Repeat the above with a smaller rectangle to give a piece the size of the groove.

    4. Move the rectangle for the groove into place in the shelf.

    5. select the groove shape and use Edit>intersect with model

However this doesn't seem to be working.

So, how do I do it?

I am using free version which I'm sure will make a difference as the intersect tools are only in the pro version...

    Any help very much appreciated.

Put an image it very more speedy than read a long text! ๐Ÿ˜‰

In the Pro version you can make automatique intersection / difference of volumes solid!

In free version you must use the Coolean plugin by Oscarlok ๐Ÿ˜‰ (for V8)

And without plugins you must make intersection / Delete by Hands

Is beautiful that please without concept!

I think you are over thinking it.

Either you try the above, which is the fastest, or you do it your way. But you are doing something wrong there, you have to select all the geometry then intersect selected, then erase the unwanted faces.

              Hi Valve90210, hi folks.

There are no differences between the Pro and the Free version to do what you want.

Before using unnecessary tools and/or plugins, try using basic tools and learn how to master these.

Click in sequence on the scenes tabs of this SketchUp file for ideas:
