Edit unique texture in an external program
-
I have begun to make some models that I want to be very NPR, to use as backdrops to some illustrations. So, I have been using a lot the Sketchup capacity to edit a texture in an external program (Photoshop in this case).
I place a material on a face, make the texture unique and then edit it in Photoshop.
My problem is that I would like to leave some parts transparent, but the texture that I can edit in Photoshop is in jpg.I did try using a material that is in png, but the texture I can edit in Photoshop is always a jpg. I suppose that when I make the texture unique, Sketchup saves it as jpg. Is there a way to have Sketchup save it as png? I didn't find a preference for it.

Well, what you can do is to save it "as" a png image then go back to SU material editor > In model library, select the jpg based material > Edit tab and there is an option to reload the material there. Browse to your png file and reload.
It is indeed a bit convoluted but if you do not need to many changes like this, it can be a workaround.

Thanks. An extra step is not a problem at all. I can make most changes on jpg and make the transparent cuts last.
