      Hi

everyone, I know how to make things like cups, vases, glasses etc.

But say you want to make a fancy glass like a champagne flute and it has a pattern cut into the outside of the glass, how should you tackle that?

      thanks

And use Tools On Surface to fraw on the curved surface. Then use Joint Push Pull to extrude it in/out. You can also create another shape (extruded logo, 3D Text) move it into your flute and intersect it.

Am I right in thinking that these would be the steps.

Create a rectangle that has a depth less than my flute,

Create my pattern on this rectangle

use the bend tool to turn this rectangle in to a cylinder,

put the pattern over the glass then open up the glass oblect and intersect.

Remove the patterned cylinder and tidy the original glass flute?

            thanks

You can also try sandbox drape, but only if your pattern does not wrap all around. You'd lay the glass on it's side. 2d pattern, drape then use joing push pull to recess.

In most cases (whatever methods) you probably want to first scale the glass 100 times too large and scale down after the application of the pattern.
