Importing DWG
-
Is there a way to import a DWG file into Layout 3. I would like to insert a surveyor's drawing and create a site plan in Layout.

Well...
You can easily import a dwg in SU...
Save it as a skp and then insert it in LayOut...As I see it, there's no direct way you can import a dwg in LO...
Perhaps it will come in the future...If the crew at Trimble implement the Ruby API, then I'm sure someone will be able to make this an option, where you can import it directly...

As Frederik says you can import via SU but once in LO if you view it in Vector mode you can then explode it to work on in LO.
I wish there was some way to manage the text aspect but there doesn't seem to be a logical path at this time between the SU model & LO text overlay workflow.
TIP: I recently tried to import a surveyors dwg file with curved polylines in it. SU imported as straight lines between survey points! I converted to dxf and the file came in as per the surveyors issued drawing.

I found a way to get DWG text into SU8. Firstly in ACAD convert all text to vector font. Then explode text into lines. This is readable in SU8 as if it were text.
An alternative is to import DWG lines only into SU8. Then underlay a jpg file of the survey in SU8.

Easy solution. Import the dwg into SU. Then copy paste into layout. Vector render it.....and your done.

Thanks for this tip Sonder
