Surface to profile - Plugin query

Hello,
Is anyone aware of a plugin that can turn a surface into profiles. An example might be a wall that is covered with wood cladding, or a roof surface with metal sheet.
I have looked at the 1001 bit pro tool set, which is nice and does a great job, just too much stuff for my needs. Any ideas?
