How to model this? [Train]
-
Hello all,
I use sketchup 8 basic version.
How would you create such model?
All I could done, is this:
And then I got stucked. I dont know how to create noncoplanar general surfaces...?
I tried make the roundcorner-faces by SoapSkinBubble tool, but it makes such weird small triangles at the edges, so that surfaces don't look well.
I cannot use roundcorner plugin, because the curves are at different positions and orientation.
Yes, I am quite beginner, For making straight and perpendicular faces Sketchup is amazingly easy, But to make somthing like this Train canopy, I absolutely dont know how.
And if you see all the high- polysurfaced models on this sites, I put a question to myself: How do they do it? Which plugin do you use, which tool?
who can help me? Thank you a lot!

I mean, If somebody skilled could to describe HOW would he make the cabin, I mean the 3D shape of cabin with all the rounded corners and profiled windsheeld.
Which tools are the best to create such shape of cabin?
Any suggestions?

Try searching this forum as well as YouTube for tutorials on modeling cars. It's not quite the same but some of the same concepts apply. Good luck.

Have you checked out TIG's extrude tools? Those plugins opened a huge door for me when it came to creating complex faces.

any link to whose videos? pls
and the best I managed till now is with artisan tool.
TIG extrude looks great on websites, so I installed it as well but still havent found the right way to use it, I have to see more tutorials, because already three times my PC freezed when applaying some functions of it
What I didnt want is general answer: like find tutorials or read other topics that is not answer, sorry
I wanted exact answers like: I would use this tool and this tool. Thx, Karel -
just for info what i created with artisan tool. I am quite satisfied, and yes, this probably will be last version.
This is my last screen from my work, as I said the best I could do was with artisan tool.

It looks like there might be a little left over geometry to clean up on the side, but otherwise it looks pretty good to me. It's troubling that TIG's tools wold cause your PC to freeze, (I have a relatively old Mac and I haven't had any issues with them), but I would encourage you to play around with them anyway. Useful club to have in the bag. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

yes on the left side there are "failures", how to clean it up?
And the top left corner is also bad, when I import it into game, the faces are in these places darkened even with textures, Why, and how to correct this? -
Cleaning up the leftover geometry depends on whether or not the unwanted 'bits' are whole faces, in which case you can zoom in and erase away. Otherwise you could turn on hidden geometry and add lines in strategic places to keep the parts of faces you need, and then delete the remainder. Someone with more experience than me could direct you better here I'm sure.
Regarding the corner you mentioned... hard to tell from the pic what would be causing the texture issue. If you haven't already done so, you might make sure all of your faces are faced correctly (front face facing out). I've read that reversed faces can cause rendering issues, so maybe your game is reacting the same way.
Good luck!
