I found a few semi related threads but I couldn't find my exact problem. After I export my SketchUp project to FBX, it creates hundreds of textures rather than just one. This wreaks havoc on any sort of rendering I do as there is one draw call per texture. Is there any plugin free or paid for which I can use to get around this? I tried Tig's OBJ exporter and it still created multiple textures. FBX format would be preferred.

    Thank you for your time.

      Hi Dan,

This usually happens when there are distorted textures (due to some UV mapping) in the skp file. SU still handles them as a single material but when exports them, it tends to split the texture into as many pieces as facets you have them distorted.

Usually triangulating the mesh prior to export helps. Try this plugin then export again.

Also, see some mentions of this concern in this tutorial: http://sketchucation.com/resources/tutorials/36-intermediate/26-texturing-an-arch-2

(I do lots of arched stuff so I have bounced into this issue before)

In other words don't adjust the pins on the texture, this is what causes this problem, the texture should not be adjusted in anyway, I'm working with draw calls myself and had this issue a while back, pm me if u require help, I can safely say I have a workflow which works really well in sketchup in keeping draw calls to a minimum

Gaieus, thank you for the link. I will try that.

cotty, thank you for the video. I will try the plugin Gaieus suggested to hopefully export less textures.

            iichiversii, pm sent.
