Hello, here is a simple tutorial on how to create the illusion of reflections in a sketchup model.
I hope it will be of use to you.
The Model is from the 3D Warehouse and the Sky style and Reflections are configured in Sketchup.

that's a nice little tweak on a trick I already knew.

Maybe a little step more is that you can turn all your model in a component, and THEN flip the copy. This way if you modify something in the design, that change is immediately present in the copy ๐Ÿ˜‰

Loving the tutorials, Kerky! Goes to show how just a plain model (with a few tweaks) can look great without a bunch of rendering or post-processing.

Keep up the good work! Hope to see more from you. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ˜„

          Kerky,

What I think you could do in your video is make the pool sides below water level translucent too. Also tell your students that the model is mirrored about the plane of the water surface. The animation looks cool anyway. The reflection brings it alive.

Glad to see someone creating more tutorials and training! Good luck.

Nice job. Only thing: at 1:09 you show the building reflection before you explain how. Great demonstration to get pool texture, sky, and surrounding all in the reflection.

Another touch is to add a swirl in PP. Simple with free Online Pixlr editor (Filter / Water Swirl)--for stills only, not animation.

Another PP note: I found that images (like your trees) come through transparent textures or faces much more sharply than the other objects, so you have to find a way to tone them down.

            Thanks for posting this.

(Edit: looking at this post and image later--there's something confusing with the reflection line if you look at the rear of the pool. I think either the mirror plane is too low or you need to make the side of the pool below water translucent, or both.)
